DIRECTIONS
Prep
  1. Place 2 hamburger rolls on a plate. Separate the tops from the bottoms

  2. Remove 2 pieces of cheese from the package and place on the plate with the buns

  3. Peel the sweet onion and use a sharp knife to cut the onion in half. Then cut one of the halves into strips or dice

Instructions
  1. Turn two stovetop burners to medium-high heat

  2. Spray a small pan with cooking spray and add the onion once the pan is hot. Sprinkle with salt and stir occasionally. Let the onions cook until golden brown

  3. Take a large, flat pana and add at least 2 tbsps of vegetable oil. Once the surface is hot, open the frozen burger package and place 2 veggie patties on the oiled surface of the pan. Add an additional drizzle of oil and a pinch of salt over the top of each patty

  4. Cook the patties at medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes. They should be sizzling in the pan, if not, add more oil, otherwise they are not cooking

  5. Using a spatula, flip the burgers (assuming the side that was formerly faced down is slightly browned - otherwise let it cook a bit longer). Sprinkle salt and garlic powder over each patty

  6. Add 2 slices of cheese to the top of each patty and cook for 4-5 minutes. You can cover the pan with a sheet of foil to trap that heat and allow the cheese to melt faster

This recipe can be made vegan by replacing the American cheese with a preferred vegan alternative or excluding the cheese altogther.
  1. Use a spatula to transfer cooked patties onto the hamburger buns with cheese facing up. Then, scoop grilled onions on top of the cheese before placing the upper half of the hamburger buns over top
